Nice little Sony
This is not a High Definition model, if it were my review would be quite different but beings it's standard def it's okay.

Okay first there's the light which is little more than a hoax, but it does mean that it might need a light in lowlight conditions. It is very small, and light, flip the 3" LCD & the camera turns on and the lens opens immediately. The battery life is as good as any Sony camcorder and I have an older sony that I used for 2 years & never had to get another battery for it. Can count on at least an hours worth of juice, but you can power it with the ac adapter.

It has no built in memory so you need to buy an SD card, 16GB is good.
It does not have very good manual adjustments, just like all sony camcorders I suppose, but most of you will be using the iAuto anyways.

Some folks think standard definition is dead but it is still used a lot, including all DVD's are not HD.
It's affordable and well worth the money for a beginner,...

easy to use
This handycam camcorder was the first I ever bought, so I can't really compare it with any others. But, I have noticed that the recorded picture is remarkably still, despite one's shaky hands! And I was able to take clear pictures through my car windows. The sound is very clear and picks up even the quietest sounds. I don't know how much better a HD picture would look, so I cannot comment much on the picture quality. However, it is certainly good enough for my touristy purposes. After downloading the software, I was able to burn DVD's very easily from the camera (since I have an external DVD player attached to my computer). And, it sounds like a "slot machine" when you turn it on and press buttons, as it has all sorts of internal sounds to let you know what it is doing!
So, I am very happy with this camcorder.

The Sony HDR-fx7 Camcorder meets all my needs.
I purchased the Sony HDR-FX7 to replace my eight year old Sony DCR-TRV900 Camcorder. The image colors are excellant and the picture quality is even better because this camera can record in HD or mini DV. The microphone is also better and you can see the stereo levels in the view finder. You can set Zebra Lines to manually control exposere. You can even take still pictures on a memory card while shooting video. You can press a button and see the last few seconds of your last shot. I am a retired professional video cameraman and this camcorder meets all my needs.

FOR PRO OR AMATEUR!
This is an amazing piece of equipment. Get the large battery for better balance and OVER EIGHT hours of taping. Broadcast quality. You will rarely NEED to go off "auto" unless you have special needs or are in a totally controlled studio situation where you can control lighting and movement. Pricey but worth every penny. The HD is as good as Discovery HD Theater's, and the std. DV recording (due to the new chips) is better then other 3-chip cameras I have owned.

Amazing camera

Entry-Level Camcorder With AVERAGE-ONLY Video Quality
160GB HDD storage! 5.1 surround sound! Built-In USB! GPS!

So those are the positives and they are somewhat impressive. However, keep in mind that it is HDD storage and NOT solid state memory. You'll need to insert a SD card into the included SD card slot if you want solid state memory.

Sony has decided to place the microphone pickups right at the front (under the lens) which means that you are near certain to pickup wind noise while recording. In fairness, it was minimal but it was evident.

Battery use is fast and depletes faster than solid state because of the HDD moving parts. Carry a backup.

BUT.... What is most important is the quality of the video. This camcorder has so many positives but when it comes to picture quality, you'll find a severe lack of pixel resolution. Colors will be impressive and even low light indoor video came in with impressive results. The negative was sub-par video. Just no details. No sharpness. Low...

The Sony Bloggie - the "Dynamic Duo" !
The Sony Bloggie Duo is a compact camera which takes both still photos and video. It comes in several nice colors and has dual display screens.

What's in the Box?
* The Bloggie with self-contained memory and battery, and a one year warranty.
* Wrist strap
* USB cable
* Typical consumer electronics paperwork (warranty info, Sony ad, etc.)

The box does not include a hardcopy user manual. When you plug in the Bloggi for the first time, you will be prompted to install the Bloggie software. You will see that the user manual (called the Handbook) is stored on the device. It can be accessed as needed, printed, downloaded, etc. It is about 40 double-sided printed pages.

If you are giving this as a gift, once you remove the outer box, you will find that the inner Sony box is handsome and will look nice to the recipient. It is a black cardboard type box with the Sony logo on top. It hinges open to reveal the Bloggie in a velveteen type...

Decent camera, unnecessary software.
The Bloggie itself is a decent enough little camera for the price. Neither the video or picture quality is out-of-this-world good, but I really don't expect it to be at this price-point. Video is definitely the stronger-suit of the Bloggie. At 720p (1280x720; 30fps) the videos can look very good, though they can also be very dark in low-light conditions (and the built-in light doesn't help a whole lot, unless you like shadows). The Bloggie also has image stabilization, which is an almost necessary feature for this type of camera. Videos definitely look better when they're not shaking everywhere.

As a still photo camera, the Bloggie isn't quite as useful. Still photos have been dark and grainy most of the times that I've used it. Low-light makes it worse, I've never been able to get any particularly good photos out of it. It's decent enough to take some snapshots here and there, but this won't be replacing your dedicated still camera.

The hardware itself feels...

Best non-professional camera for the money
After spending hours researching about this camera, I bought it because I decided it was the best. Now that I have used it for several months, I know for myself. Why? Several reasons.

1. The image quality was my #1 concern and this camera doesn't disappoint. Indoors, the quality is definitely more than acceptable, but outdoors is where it really jumps out at you. Color was amazing and there was absolutely no blurriness, fuzziness or grain. It's really as good as it can get.

2. The photo mode is very useful and more than just an added feature. In 8.9 mp, the quality was better than expected (outdoors at least).

3. The touchscreen interface is easy to understand and people with steep learning curves will adjust without trouble. Also, the physical buttons on the camera are few in number, with only the most used and most logical functions being present; everything else is handled one step at a time on the touchscreen.

4. I thought that the GPS...

Impressive Camera!
Recently while preparing for a trip to Africa, I purchased an entry level Samsung camcorder. I was extremely disappointed in both image quality and overall functionality. In fact, I did not even take it to Africa, as it offered no advantage over the camcorder functionality built into my Canon Elf digital camera.

So, I was very excited about the chance to get this higher end Sony Camcorder. After my experience with the Samsung, I came into the deal somewhat skeptical. After spending some time with this Sony, I have become a true believer. In this review, I will focus on the things I liked about this camera, as compared to the entry level cameras I have used in the past.

First, the camera is easy to use. I was able to get going with it without reading the instructions. I am of the opinion that a well designed product should be intuitive, and not need instructions. This camera receives high marks in this area. I got all features working without the manual...

sony handicam
My first impressions of this small camcorder are very good. The size is perfect as it fits in your purse so it is available at all times. How many times have you thought I wish I had my camera. The battery last about one and a half hours,it is a infolithium battery, which means that you can see how much time you have left on it. Plus it will hold and retain its charge over time. The record time on sp is about 85 minutes. This camcorder will accept up to a 16 gig memory card. And, you can purchase additional batteries with longer record time. The number of the batteries range between np-fh50 to np-fh100. The touch screen is simple and easy to use. It is powered up when the lcd screen is opened. The controls all have a good placement. The zoom is great works quietly and quickly. The sound is also very good(I could hear every bite the cat ate,the screech of the rocking chair and even the tv which was turned low.)No it is not hd but the picture is very good. This camcorder has a quality...

Easy, portable, but some knotty movie file issues
I was torn between the Sony SX40 (or SX41) and the Canon FS200. They were similar in price, and the reviews here and elsewhere offered comparable raves and rants. I went with the Sony SX 40 because it comes with internal flash memory: even if you lose or corrupt your data stick, you can still film right to your camera. For the Canon you can only film to a data stick; this adds about $50 to the price because you must purchase it separately. Also, the Sony SXs save their files as MPEG-2s, which I have heard are more compatible with various software than the Canon's MOD files.

I love the SX40's compact size, the feather lightness, the intuitive simplicity of filming, and the clarity of the movies on our TV screen. I do not love the short battery life and long recharge time.

I was also troubled by camera's filetype and the bundled Picture Motion Browser software. Other reviewers have made similar complaints, so I was ready for the glitch but still frustrated...

  • USB Connection Support Cable

Great quality video but focus lags
I've had this camera for about a week now and have been loving it ever since. I've used another "flip" camcorder and the Bloggie Touch puts it to shame.

Pros:
1. Love the quick on and record. Great for spontaneous videos of the little one.
2. The touch screen interface makes it both useful and fun to use the big screen.
3. The still pictures come out brilliant, when the lighting and focus is good.
4. The battery charges up super fast and stays with you for a whole day of shooting.
5. The image stabilization is good. You can take decent video while walking around and panning too. Note that it is not optical, but electronic SteadyShot stabilization.
6. The lens is very good quality and the pictures are crisp.
7. Really like the "snap picture while recording" feature. I find myself using that feature the most. The video doesn't stall while the picture (full 12M resolution) is being taken and since the focus and exposure are usually locked...

Wow, wow, 1080! And so easy to use with the touch controls (pc and now apple compatible)
Well it almost seems like everything is now like an iPad! Operating this little device is definately one touch and not multi touch. IT was fully charged when you switch on the device (that was a plus). The packaging was beautiful and I thought I was getting a nice of piece of jewelry!

This little camcorder/camera has a glass face that provides most of the functions with the exception of an one/off button, camera button and another button for start/stop video recording. There is an initial set up prompt menu when you first start the device and a demo video that gets you all excited that you immediately want to play with it!
Pros of this device
1) camera provides photo size of 12megap, 8m, or 2m
2) movie size 1080 (30p), 720 (60p), 720 (30p)
3) camera self timer (2 or 10 minutes)
4) zoom touch
5) camera has a single face recognition
6) delete and view of saved items very easy to navigate
7) mini hdmi to allow view to television...

Sony DCR-SR45 30GB Hard Drive Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom Top Price

V4)SONY DCR-SR45 30GB HARDDRIVE CAM

  • Capture video to hard disk drive; 30 GB storage
  • 40x optical zoom, 2000x digital zoom; Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens
  • 2.7-inch widescreen touch-panel Clear Photo LCD
  • Built-in zoom microphone with 5.1-channel recording
  • Memory Stick Pro Duo media slot

Compact, But Not Perfect
I bought this camera as a replacement for a VHS-C camera that I never did manage to use because it was just too cumbersome. The HandyCam SR45 is certainly small -- it fits in my purse! But it does have a few flaws I wish I had realized before purchasing.

First of all, it doesn't have a wide-angle lens. That is an optional accessory. This limits my filmmaking abilities more than I realized it would. Secondly, it dosn't have a viewfinder. You are forced to use the viewscreen at all times. In bright sun you can't see the image on the viewscreen at all, so without the option of switching to the viewfinder it's hit and miss if you are filming what you think you are filming.

And the last major challenge I have is that it records in MPEG2 format. This is the format (I guess) that you need to output directly to DVD. But for editing, this is not the best format. To edit in Windows Movie Maker you have to convert the file types and the quality tanks. I am looking at some...

As good as any of the other Camcorders in this price range.
The last time I bought a camcorder was in 1994, when my first Daughter was born. It was an 8mm Panasonic. Since then I have bought Point and Shoots and SRL Digitals that really impressed me. I was so used to the quality of my Canon Rebel, that I just assumed that a new cam corder would get me the same quality or close to it!
I put down my $408.00 (got a deal) on a new Sony DCR-SR45. I like the Carl Ziess lenses and thought this has got to give me good quality! I also was impressed that it was all on a hard drive..30gb drive is more than enough for my needs.

. The HandyCam SR45 fit right in my hand, it weighs less then my Canon Rebel(with the 50mm lens) and is pretty easy to use. I love the touch screen...but then it came time to test the camera out....
My first test was in my Home office...and it looked grainy. I checked the settings and it was set to "SP" so I set it to "HQ" and tried again....Still grainy.
I decided that maybe it is just too little light in...

The Sony HDR-PJ200/B Full HD Camcorder with Projector features its super sharp video capture quality of 1920 x 1080/60i for that full HD appeal. What’s also worth noting is its high-contrast projector built-in to the LCD panel for that amazing playback quality. Thanks also to its Back-illuminated Exmor® CMOS sensor for that super sharp image quality even to low-light scenes, along with the stylish 2.7” LCD touchscreen for you to compose shots easily.

  • 2.7 inch touch-screen Clear Photo LCD display
  • 1920x1080 Full HD Recording
  • Back-illuminated Exmor CMOS sensor for superb low-light video

A small HD digital video camera recorder with a projector... How cool is that? But is it worth it?
For my latest tech review, I take a look at Sony's latest HD digital video recorder, the HDR-PJ200.

I. What's in the package?

- Digital Recorder with built-in USB cable
- Mini-HD Cable
- Rechargeable Battery Adapter (Power Cord/AC Adapter)
- USB-=>Video cables (AV Connecting Cable)
- Yellow, Red, white component cables
- USB Adapter (USC Connection Support CAble)
- Rechargeable Battery Pack NP-FV30

NO SDCARD IS AVAILABLE. You will definitely want to purchase a Class 10 SDCard (4GB minimum but I recommend 32GB or 64GB).

II. FIRST IMPRESSIONS

- APPEARANCE: After unpackaging, I was pretty impressed of how small this digital video camera is. The width is probably 3-inches wide, small enough to hold with one hand and is very light. The camera is plastic and you get a feeling that if you do drop this camera, it's done for.

- BATTERY: Battery is not charged, so I had to charge the battery which...

Good value for money!
Sony's 2012 model HDR-PJ200 has lots of bells and whistles for an entry level camcorder and 5.3 megapixel still image capture device. The price is okay knowing that you get a SONY quality camcorder with built-in projector but honestly, the still image capture is very poor and video recording performance is average at best.

Last month I also reviewed Sony HDRCX580V High Definition Handycam 20.4 MP Camcorder with 12x Optical Zoom and 32 GB Embedded Memory (2012 Model) camcorder for Amazon which sells for more than double the price of this HDR-PJ200 and does not even have built-in projector. In my humble opinion the high end model does have better video capture quality & image quality especially when it comes to Still images. Remember! - You always get what you pay for.

The optical image stabilization...

Pros: Excellent picture quality! Ease of use, convenient 4 mega pixel still while in video mode, easy connect base, and mpg video format right from the camera!

Cons: Easy connect base (good and bad news), flash disabled with filters or lens, and a little slow to connect to the PC.

I wanted ease of use, high quality picture, and good still performance - I got it all.

I did the tech research on picture quality and the SR300 seemed to be rated the best by most of the experts. The CMOS capture device is what is used in very high end cameras, so I was expecting a decent picture.

Here is the non-tech evaluation of the picture: on my Hi Def TV the picture quality from this camcorder is much better than normal TV picture and not quite as good as a high quality progressive scan DVD. It is better than I expected and I am VERY happy with the picture quality.

The SR300 is easy to use and that is what I wanted. Point it and shoot. In...

Excellent first impressions
I've been using it for a couple of days, and I love it. The harddisk is a gift, once you get used to it, you'll never want to use tape again. The USB 2.0 transfer to your computer works like a charm and it's pretty quick even for very large files, also because the video file types are mpeg, dvd authoring software doesn't take forever to compile a dvd, it's very quick.

There are a couple of simple, yet powerful editing features using the camcorder itself. The interface is pretty intuitive, and the touch screen is very accessible even for my thick thumbs. The video picture quality is excellent in medium light, but weak in low light still 'far better than my previous Canon ZR70 though'. The stand still camera is not that good, compared to my current Sony P8.

I love the slow motion feature, unfortunately it can only capture 6 seconds, also taking photos while you're video taping is an excellent feature, but you can only take 3 photos during shooting videos. All...

  • 3-Inch LCD Screen

The Sony!
I don't know how this hasn't been reviewed yet - this is simply the "prosumer" camcorder to have. After reading up on this camera, the Canons (GL2, XL1s), and the "Panny" (aka, the DVX100a), it seems this manages to, put simply:

- Beat the GL2
- Tie with the XL1s
- Beat the DVX100a

To go more in depth, let's start with the GL2. While this is one heck of an affordable, broadcast-quality machine, it mainly loses to the VX2100 in terms of low-light conditions. This is really where the Sony shines - low-light shooting. A popular breakdown of the VX2100 vs. the GL2 is that the VX2100 works better in low light, and the GL2 has a more powerful zoom. That pretty much is what it comes down to. The GL2 has a "frame mode," in which you get 30 frames/second non-interlaced video. The idea behind this is to equate to the popular, on-demand 24p, to get that "film look." Such a look is only important if you plan on doing actual movies, and...

Excellent camera geared towards the action sports/ adventure filmmaker
This camera has been in my eye for roughly 3 years now and now that it is finally in my possession, I could not be more pleased. As the previous owner of a Canon Optura 300, I had been craving a more professional camera for a very long time. My Canon, while being possibly one of the best 1-chip camera I have ever used, was far too small for what I needed to accomplish with it. I craved for more manual control, an easier layout, a more stable camera, and full and in-depth control over white balance and focus. The VX2100 fulfilled all these requirements spectacularly. I use this camera primarily for filming skateboarding and snowboarding videos and short films and it is seemingly tailor made to suit the needs of those who documents these sports. Here is a short synopsis of what makes each of the features on this camera so fantastic.

Layout: This camera has a great layout. From the zoom and focusing ring near the front of the camera to the record button and zoom rocker on the...

Easy To Use, 1080p Camera, Built For Sharing!
I got my camera today and I was excited to take it for a test drive. My initial impression while unboxing it was how sleek & well packaged it was (the heavy thick internal box was very much like iphone and ipod). You get the camera, a usb extender cable, a camera tether/strap and the documents. The software is built into the camera so don't be shocked when you don't see it. The battery was fully charged when I got mine so I was instantly able to power it on and check it out. I started to read some documents and they told me to register and install the software before getting stated. Below I will breakdown the following process step by step.

>> Registration/Software/Setup:
When you get the camera out of the box you can plug it into your USB port on your machine. (Remember to have the power turned on when you plug it into the USB or it wont get detected) Two new folders show up on your drive list.."Bloggie" & "Bloggie Software". You then run the camera software called...

Missing Essential Features, but Easy to Use
I bought this specifically to record band rehearsals and performances. I think I might take it back because it is missing a couple of essential features, although it is quite easy to use and has surprisingly good audio quality.

When I started looking for a handheld camcorder to record music rehearsals and performances, I quickly narrowed down the field to the Sony Bloggie, the Zoom Q3 and the Zoom Q3 HD because of their listed attributes and the great reviews on these products. The Zoom Q3 was the front runner as far as audio quality was concerned (according to reviewers) but was not 1080p. The Bloggie was 1080p, but didn't have the audio rep of the Zoom. The Zoom Q3 HD had both. I finally settled on the Sony Bloggie because the Zoom Q3 HD was a little out of my price range, and because I could find it locally and I needed it ASAP.

So here's the review:

The Bloggie came in a slick little box which can also be used as a carrying case for all the...

Very good package
This camcorder is pretty good and is easy to use out of the box. I bought this package and was immeadiately satisfied by what I got. Everything you need to start making quality videos. You may want to also get the Sony Vmc Uam1 usb adaptor to purge your camcorder videos to a portable hard drive on the go.

This camera is GREAT!
We purchased this because of our new addition to the family, our baby boy! Love the video it takes. Crisp, clear, sound is great too. I also like the 'slideshow' mode you can put it. This bundle with all the extra goodies was better than expected. We were impressed to see everything it came with. Our only dislike is the lighting on the camera. If it is dark or your in a dark room, you'll need to turn on a light (but it doesn't have to be 'perfect, bright' lighting either). So, overall, great purchase and very pleased with the camera and this bundle package.

Sony Knocks it Out of the Park with this One!
For those wanting the bottom line . . . Sony has knocked it out of the park with this camcorder, delivering incredible bang for the buck, and features I never thought I would see in a home camcorder. If you are a home video enthusiast, rest assured that this camera maintains the simple auto features you have come to expect from Sony. You can have it out of the box, and taking video in under three minutes without reading the instructions. However, if you are willing to dig a little deeper, you will find some incredible horsepower under the hood of this camera.

For some time now, Sony has delivered both the best quality and features in home camcorders, with models available to fit almost any budget. For me, the question is not whether to get a Sony, but which Sony to get. Another question that often arises is, when a new model has the features that warrant upgrading to the latest and greatest. I will try to answer these questions by comparing thisw Sony HDR-PJ650V which comes...

SR8 is one of the best choices available in non-professional product lineup
I bought the camera on december 31st in Amsterdam and used it during the following 5 days of my vacation, including a wild New Year night at Amsterdam. To be very short this choice had been a result of a 3-month analysis. It is one of the best HD cameras available today below $2,000, has a large hard disc of 100Gb, which is more than enough, because it is hard to waste it before you run out of battery, which may run up to 1,5 hours of video shooting and quite long in a standby mode.

The picture quality is excellent, the videos had already been used in a TV report (I work on television).

One of the drawbacks is a poor sound recording in the street, like you hear a fire truck or an ambulance driving in 50 meters from you and clearly hear the sound, while on the tape the sound will almost be non-existent. Morale: use outside micro if you need the street sounds. It worls perfectly with the forest though.

Overall very good, with some reservations coming...

Great if you don't want to record for over 20 minutes!
When I first got this camera, I loved it! After about a year and a half, however, I have a BIG issue. After about 20 minutes of use (starting and stopping recording), the autofocus quits working. Example, I can record the first period of my son's hockey game. Then the recording is blurred and won't focus. I can turn the camera off during the second period, let it cool down and it might make it through the third period. Let's just hope nothing good happens in the second! I didn't buy a 100GB hard drive camera for short videos!

After googling the problem, I have found that it is common with this camcorder and others in this sony line. Apparently, as the camera warms up, a tiny vibration begins somewhere inside the camcorder. This vibrates the lens and obviously it can't autofocus with a vibration in the lens. Several of the people with this problem had contacted Sony and found that, yes, they will fix it...for around $500! I contacted Sony today and they said I...
